This summer, I got out with some friends and tested the Beal Sunrise 9.2 mm Unicore Dry Cover across my usual Wyoming haunts—sport crags, dusty approaches, and longer alpine days—and was surprised by how light, smooth, and confidence-inspiring it felt. Even on full days of belaying, it fed cleanly, caught falls softly, and never shredded my hands. Despite the pale color and gritty rock, it’s held up incredibly well and still looks nearly new. I also love that it’s made from 100% recycled tires and significantly cuts its carbon footprint. My only hesitation is the thin diameter, which won’t be everyone’s preference, but for me it was worth the weight savings. Overall, it’s become one of my favorite ropes to take into the mountains.
